Yan Zhenqing resume

2 Calligraphy achievements

Yan Zhenqing was born in a family with a traditional family tradition, and there are many paleontologists and calligraphers among his ancestors. When I was young, my family was poor and lacked paper and pen, so I practiced calligraphy on the wall with my pen dipped in loess and water. Yan Zhenqing first learned calligraphy from Chu Suiliang and later from Zhang Xu. It was only after the age of 50 that he developed a distinctive style of strong and vigorous calligraphy. The quality of his books and his character are quite consistent. People in the Song Dynasty respected Yan Zhenqing's character and his love of learning Yan Zhenqing. In the eyes of Su Shi and Huang Tingjian, Yan Zhenqing inherited Wang Xizhi's reform spirit and was a reformer of calligraphy in the Tang Dynasty.

Historical records record:

Less good at Confucianism, respectful, filial and self-reliant. Poor paper and pen, sweeping the wall with loess, learning calligraphy, perfect regular script, and superb diction.

3 Extraordinary martial arts skills

According to "Zi Zhi Tong Jian":

At the beginning, Yan Zhenqing, the governor of Pingyuan, knew that Lushan was rebelling. Because of the rain, the city was dredged, and the materials were strong. The warehouse was built, and Lushan used its scholars to change it.

An Lushan received the news and thought that he was just a civil servant who did not understand military affairs, so he did not take him seriously.

AD 755:

When Lushan rebelled, he ordered Zhenqing to send 7,000 soldiers from Pingyuan and Boping to defend Hejin. Zhenqing sent Li Pingjian, a soldier from Pingyuan, to report it.
When I first heard about the Lushan Rebellion, which was popular in all counties and counties in Hebei, I sighed and said, "There has never been a single righteous person in the twenty-four counties!"
When Ping arrived, he said with great joy: "I don't know what Yan Zhenqing is doing, but he can be like this!" Zhenqing sent relatives and guests to buy the thief's ultimatum in secret and sent it to all the counties, so many counties responded. True Qing is Gao Qing's younger brother.

An Lushan rebelled and formally informed Yan Zhenqing to lead 7,000 troops from Pingyuan and Boping counties to garrison the Yellow River crossing. Yan Zhenqing sent Li Ping to report to the capital Chang'an via a small road. Only then did Li Longji officially learn of An Lushan's rebellion. At that time, the counties north of the Yellow River surrendered to Wangfeng. Li Longji sighed and said, "Among the 24 counties in Hebei Province, is there not a single county chief who is a righteous man?" When Li Ping arrived, Li Longji was overjoyed. He said: "I don't even know what Yan Zhenqing is like, but he has done such a good job." Yan Zhenqing sent his cronies to secretly carry notices offering rewards for the capture of the rebels, and posted them in various counties, and many counties responded.

4 hard bones

In 783 AD, Li Xiyeol rebelled. Lu Qi, the prime minister of the current dynasty, was jealous of Yan Zhenqing and proposed a plan to the emperor:

The emperor asked Lu Qi about his plan, and he said: "Xi Lie is a young general who is arrogant and arrogant based on his achievements. No general dares to remonstrate with him. If he is sincere and refined, he can serve as a noble minister and serve as a saint. He will be a blessing and misfortune for Chen Nishun. Xi Lie must change his mind and repent." "Yan Zhenqing, a former minister of the three dynasties, is loyal, upright and resolute. He is well-known throughout the country and is believed by others. He is a true person!" The superior agreed. On the day of Jiawu, the real minister was ordered to go to Xuzhou to announce his condolences to Xi Lie. Under the imperial edict, the whole court was eclipsed.

Emperor Li Shi sent Yan Zhenqing to Xuzhou to comfort Li Xilie. The edict was issued, and all the officials who heard it showed pale faces.

It can be seen that this trip is extremely dangerous, and there is basically no return.

Zhenqing took a post to the east capital, and Uncle Zheng said: "It is inevitable to go, it is better to stay as little as possible, for later life."
Zhenqing said: "You have given your order, how can you avoid it?" Then he did it.
Li Mian said: "It is a shame for the country to lose an elder. Please keep him." He also asked someone to invite the real minister, but he failed.
Zhenqing wrote a letter to his son, but the order was just to "serve the family temple and care for the orphans".
When he arrived in Xuzhou, he wanted to declare the imperial edict, but Xi Lie asked his adopted son to surround him with more than a thousand people, scolding him slowly, and drew their swords to imitate him.
Xi Lie suddenly covered him with his body, and ordered all his followers to retreat. The real ministers in the hall paid tribute to him.
Xilie wanted to send Zhenqing back, but Li Yuanping was present. Zhenqing scolded him. Yuanping got up in shame and secretly revealed Bai Xilie. Xilie's intention changed, and Zhenqing was not sent back.

Zheng Shu, the left-behind commander of the Eastern Capital, said: "You will inevitably die when you arrive in Xuzhou. It is best to stay for a while and wait for the next instructions from the central government." Yan Zhenqing said: "How can you evade the emperor's order!" and continued to move forward.

Yan Zhenqing wrote a letter home to his son, only instructing: "Sacrifice to the ancestral temple and raise orphans!"

Li Xilie ordered more than a thousand of his adopted sons to surround Yan Zhenqing and scold him loudly. Some even drew their swords from their sheaths and slashed at his neck, as if they wanted to chop him to death, chop him into pieces and eat him. Yan Zhenqing stood there without even moving his feet, and his expression did not change.

5 steadfast and unyielding

Year 784:

However, Li Xilie relied on his military strength and wealth, so he planned to proclaim himself emperor. He sent someone to ask Yan Zhenqing about the ceremony, and Zhenqing said: "I have tried to be a courtesy official, but what I remember is that the princes paid homage to the emperor!"

Li Xilie relied on his strong military strength and abundant wealth to actively prepare for the enthronement ceremony. Someone was sent to inquire about the etiquette and ceremony from Yan Zhenqing, the prince’s master.

Yan Zhenqing replied: "I used to be a etiquette officer, and all I remember are the etiquette ceremonies for the kings of feudal states to meet the emperor!"

Xi Lie sent his general Xin Jingzhen to tell Yan Zhenqing: "If you can't bend your moral integrity, you will burn yourself!" He poured fuel into his court with his salary. Zhenqing rushes to the fire, but Jingzhen stops it quickly.

Li Xilie sent general Xin Jingzhen to tell Yan Zhenqing: "If you refuse to give in, you should set fire to yourself!" He piled the firewood into the courtyard, poured anointing oil on it, and lit a fire. Yan Zhenqing ran towards the fire, but Xin Jingzhen hurriedly stopped him.

6 Death of Zhenqing

Year 785:

Li Xilie was furious when he heard that Li Xiqian had been executed. In August of Renyin, he sent an envoy to Caizhou to kill Yan Zhenqing.
The envoy said: "There is an edict." The real minister bowed again. The envoy said: "I grant you death now."
Zhenqing said: "I am innocent and should die for my crime. I wonder when the envoy will leave Chang'an?"
The messenger said: "I came from Daliang, not Chang'an."
Zhenqing said: "But if you are a thief, how can you call it evil?" Then he was hanged.

Emperor Chu Li Xilie was very angry when he heard the news that his younger brother Li Xiqian had been executed. Send eunuchs to Caizhou to kill Yan Zhenqing.

The eunuch told Yan Zhenqing: "By imperial edict!" Yan Zhenqing kowtowed, and the eunuch said: "I grant you death."

Yan Zhenqing said: "I am old and cannot complete my mission as an envoy. I shall be punished by death. But I wonder when the imperial envoy left Chang'an?"

The eunuch said: "I come from Daliang, not Chang'an."

Yan Zhenqing said: "Then he is just a traitor, how can he be called an imperial edict?"

The eunuch then strangled Yan Zhenqing to death at the age of seventy-six.
