When it comes to getting started with regular script writing on fountain pen copybooks, I think we should focus on grasping the following three issues.
In fact, everyone can write with a hard pen, but once you reach the level of calligraphy, there are a lot of things to pay attention to. Because there are rules in calligraphy, it is impossible to do as you like in the past. You have to give up some old things and accept some new things at the same time.
The first is to become familiar with writing tools and play with the pen.
Playing with the brush is practicing how to use the brush. The temperament and expression of pointillism are all in the brushwork and lines. It is very important to draw lines of different thicknesses, different shapes, and different curvatures to express the horizontal, firm, bending, bending, hooking, and lifting. Once you become familiar with the hard pen, you will be able to vividly and accurately write any stipple lines you need in your future calligraphy studies.
The second is to carefully prepare a copybook.
In fact, the most important thing when practicing hard calligraphy is to grasp the structure and form. The initial copying must be similar in form, the more similar the better. Practice single characters first, then radicals, and finally combined characters. Chinese characters are composed of different blocks, and the structure is the technique of spatial distribution of these blocks, drawing parallels and bypassing them. Therefore, precise copying does not require practicing word for word, but each character with a different structure must be practiced.
The third is to write silently (back to back) repeatedly.
Use your memory to copy the copybooks you have found, first find the structure, and then polish the drawings. There are two key points here that are very important, one is memory and the other is habit. Beginners must use memory to promote and shape habits, rather than using habits to influence memory. Let go of all the habits you had before learning calligraphy and follow the instructions in a down-to-earth manner. Otherwise, as soon as you throw away the copybook, your original shape will be revealed again.
Let’s talk briefly below. More in-depth exchanges are welcome.
