Is it useful to practice calligraphy using grooved copybooks? Then I’ll just talk about the pros and cons!
In my opinion, it does more harm than good. The specific reasons are as follows:
advantage:
1. If beginners are not familiar with penmanship and font structure, it is recommended to use groove copybook (but not for too long), because it can play a certain supporting role and help beginners get started quickly.
2. Beginners often have a certain fear of practicing calligraphy. Many friends around me do not want to write beautiful handwriting, but they always say that it is too late or the effect is too slow. In the end, they are still afraid of practicing even if they do it. Even if you don't practice well, learning groove copybooks can increase beginners' confidence.
shortcoming:
1. From an intuitive point of view, the grooves are carved, so when our pen travels in the grooves, it will feel like it is being resisted. For some strokes, according to this copybook, it is difficult to find the correct way to exert force. In addition, This is not the way we usually feel when writing. Normally writing is natural and relaxed, but using grooves will inevitably lead to restraint. Over time, it will develop our dependence. Without the copybook, we will not be able to control the direction of the words.
2. The grooves of some words will be different in depth, which will affect the writing effect. In addition, the mood of the writer will also affect the writing effect. If you encounter such a copybook, your mood will not be much better! Generally speaking: Grooved copybooks still have a certain effect, but they do more harm than good. They are only suitable for beginners or primary school students. They should switch from temporary copybooks to ordinary copybooks as soon as possible.
You can only make progress by stepping out of your comfort zone. Lying down at home is comfortable, but I can't lie out of the mermaid line. Go to the gym and you will be as tired as a dog. Keep at it and you will see results. Very simple reason. If you don’t believe in pie in the sky, how can you believe in those quick success stories? Therefore, in summary, the groove copybook is useless for practicing calligraphy.
