Lecturer:Wo Xinghuateacher

Format: mp4 Capacity: 95.7M Resolution: HD

Yan Zhenqing (709-784), whose courtesy name was Qingchen, nicknamed Xianmenzi, and nicknamed Yingfang, was born in Jingzhao Wannian (now Xi'an, Shaanxi). He was a famous official and calligrapher in the Tang Dynasty. In the 22nd year of Kaiyuan (734), he became a Jinshi and served successively as the Supervisory Censor and the Palace Attendant Censor. He rose to the rank of Minister of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, Crown Prince and Grand Master, and was granted the title of Duke of Lu County, and was known as "Gong Yan Lu". Together with Zhao Mengfu, Liu Gongquan and Ouyang Xun, they are known as the "Four Masters of Regular Script". It is also called "Yan Liu" together with Liu Gongquan, and is also known as "Yan Jin Liu Gu". His calligraphy and inscription works include "Duobao Pagoda Stele", "Ode to Dongfang Shuo's Paintings", "Yan Qin Li Stele", "Ode to the Zhongxing of the Tang Dynasty", "Magu Immortal Altar", "General Pei's Poems", "Seat Struggle", etc. His ink-printed works include "Manuscript for Nephew's Commemoration", "Liu Zhong's Envoy's Post", "Huzhou's Post", "Self-written Letter" and so on.

"Manuscripts of Memorials to Nephews" (full name "Manuscripts of Memorials to Nephews and Praise to the Benevolent Doctor Ji Mingwen") is a calligraphy work on cursive paper created by Yan Zhenqing, a calligrapher of the Tang Dynasty, in the first year of Qianyuan of the Tang Dynasty (758). It is now collected in the National Palace Museum in Taipei.

"Manuscript of Memorials to My Nephew" is a draft for memorializing my nephew Yan Jiming. There are twenty-three lines in total, with 234 words in total. This manuscript traces the story of Yan Gaoqing, the governor of Changshan, and his son's family, who stood up and resisted resolutely during the rebellion in Anlu Mountain. As a result, "the father was trapped and the son died, and the nest overturned the eggs." There is a surge of emotion in the writing throughout the article, the calligraphy is majestic, the vertical strokes are bold, and everything is done in one go.

"Manuscripts of Sacrifice to My Nephew", together with "Lanting Preface" by Wang Xizhi of the Eastern Jin Dynasty and "Huangzhou Hanshitie" in running script by Su Shi of the Northern Song Dynasty, are known as "the three major running scripts in the world", and are also known as "the second running script in the world". Moreover, this manuscript was written in a state of extreme sadness and indignation, regardless of the clumsiness of the pen and ink. Therefore, the characters fluctuate with the calligrapher's emotions, which is purely a natural expression of the calligrapher's spirit and daily workmanship. This is rare in the entire history of calligraphy. Therefore, "Manuscript of Memorial to My Nephew" is one of the original ink works of great historical and artistic value.
