"Tang Sun Guoting Calligraphy" is a calligraphy work created by Sun Guoting during the Tang Dynasty.
Sun Guoting (active in the late seventh century), one said was named Qianli, also given the courtesy name Guoting, and was born in Chenliu, Henan Province; the other said that his name was Guoting, also given the given name Qianli, was born in Fuyang, Zhejiang Province. According to the title of this volume, he was a native of Wu County and his name was Guoting. Born in a humble family, he took up the post of leading the government affairs and joining the army at the age of 40. He was dismissed because of his noble nature and was slandered. After that, he focused on the study of calligraphy.
Sun Guoting specialized in Wang Xizhi's cursive calligraphy and was so skilled in calligraphy that no one in the Tang Dynasty could compare with him. The paper and ink in this volume are exquisite and radiant. It is not only a beautifully written theory of calligraphy, but also an ideal example of cursive calligraphy art. The volume combines simplicity and beautiful calligraphy style, and the brush strokes are used both at the center and on the sides. The brush strokes are either hidden or exposed, rise and fall suddenly, and change at any time, which is dizzying for the eyes. The brush strokes are vertical and horizontal, free and easy, reaching a state of forgetfulness between heart and hand.
