Wang Xizhi (303-361, 321-379), courtesy name Yishao, Han nationality, was a famous calligrapher during the Eastern Jin Dynasty and was known as the "Sage of Calligraphy". His ancestral home was Langya (now Linyi, Shandong). He later moved to Shanyin, Huiji (now Shaoxing, Zhejiang), and lived in seclusion in Jinting, Shan County in his later years.


Wang Xizhi, the sage of calligraphy, is the most famous and most accomplished calligrapher in China. He drew on the strengths of others and formed his own style. Not only is he a highly symbolic monument in the history of Chinese calligraphy, he has profoundly influenced Chinese calligraphy for thousands of years, but he also left behind a large number of rich and diverse calligraphy works.
