Wen Zhengming was a painter, calligrapher and writer of the Ming Dynasty. Together with Zhu Yunming, Tang Yin and Xu Zhenqing, he is also known as the "Four Talents in Wuzhong". In the history of painting, together with Shen Zhou, Tang Yin and Qiu Ying, they are known as the "Four Wu Schools". He is especially good at calligraphy, and has attainments in seal script, Li script, Kai script, Xing script and Cao script. He is very good at running script and regular script, with graceful strokes and gentle rhythm. He is known as "the best in the Ming Dynasty".

Today we will appreciate Wen Zhengming's three masterpieces in regular script: "Qin Fu", "Ten Records of the Thatched Cottage" and "Thousand-Character Essay".

1. "Qin Fu"

In the history of calligraphy, Wen Zhengming is famous for being good at all kinds of calligraphy, especially small regular script, which is the most accomplished. Zhu Hegen in the Qing Dynasty even said: "Wenheng Mountain is the first in Mingkai."

The inscription in Wen Zhengming's "Qin Fu" says: "Old man Yu's eyes are dim and he has no feet to see." The representative work "Qin Fu" in small regular script was written when Wen Zhengming was 74 years old:

There are very few calligraphers in their later years who insist on writing in "feitou Xiaokai". Firstly, it is due to their state of mind. Most calligraphers at this time are in a calm and relaxed state of mind. Secondly, it is due to physical strength. In old age, physical strength and energy naturally decrease. Decline. It is rare that Wen Zhengming still loved small regular script when he was seventy or eighty years old!

Wen Zhengming was also very accomplished in poetry and prose. His poems are close to Liu Zongyuan and Bai Juyi, with elegant and beautiful style, fresh and natural.

2. "Ten Records of Thatched Cottage"

"Ten Chronicles of Thatched Cottage" Xiaokai imitates the Jin and Tang Dynasties, and strives to become stronger and stronger. It is an excellent model for calligraphy enthusiasts to learn small regular script, and is also an excellent model for practicing regular script in brush and hard-pen calligraphy. Whether you like calligraphy or not, whether you are learning traditional brush calligraphy or hard-pen calligraphy, you will love it!

3. Wen Zhengming's "Thousand-Character Essay"

Some people say, "Wen Zhengming's reserved temperament determined his gentle, mature, and strict writing style." This statement is reasonable. Although I am happy with Tang Yin's romantic and wanton behavior, he should be like Zheng Ming, who was so public and wanton that he died young after being "half a century strong".
