As a calligrapher with personal style and considerable achievements, Ouyang Xun occupies an important position in the history of Chinese calligraphy and has always been highly praised. Su Shi, his favorite disciple, once said: "Ouyang Gong's calligraphy is unique in his writing style, with strong strokes and new and beautiful fonts. However, Gong's ink writing should be regarded as a treasure in the world and does not need the work of strokes."

Ouyang Xun's calligraphy thoughts had a significant impact on the entire Northern Song calligraphy world. Whether it was Cai Xiang, Su Shunyuan, Su Shunqin, and Shi Yannian at the same time, or later Su Shi, Huang Tingjian, and Mi Fu, they were all influenced by Ouyang's work to varying degrees. Influence. Therefore, in a certain sense, the Song people's calligraphy reform and innovation, their emphasis on personality and integrity, and "advocating meaning" became a trend of the times, all of which are inseparable from Ouyang Xun's theoretical contribution to calligraphy.

Ouyang's calligraphy gradually improved in his later years, and due to his frequent contact with a large number of ancient tablets and dharma inscriptions, his appreciation of calligraphy became increasingly sophisticated: "I have collected thousands of relics from previous lives, and I have learned to read the handwriting of various sages. It is incomparable." I know calligraphy, and I have a little knowledge of it. But people don't have to be reluctant to learn! I am old now, my eyes are dim and my hands are trembling. Although I can't write a calligraphy, if I open the window and look at it, I won't be able to master calligraphy." Ouyang Xun said about calligraphy. He studied calligraphy throughout his life, and became more and more obsessed with calligraphy in his later years: "Since I was young, I have enjoyed many things, but since middle age, I have gradually given up on them. Some people are tired of it and do not do it, or they are not tired of it, or they have the strength but cannot stop it. . The longer it lasts, the deeper it becomes, and the one that never tires of it is the book."
