Liu Chunlin (1872-1944), whose courtesy name was Runqin and whose nickname was Shiyun. In the late Qing Dynasty, he was born in Suning County, Hejian Prefecture, Zhili Province (now Suning County, Hebei Province). He was the last number one scholar in Chinese history. He served successively as the inspector-general of Yunnan, the chief envoy of Jiangnan, and the chief envoy of Jiangnan. Calligraphy is famous for its small regular script, and it is sometimes said that "the large regular script learns from Yan (Yan Zhenqing), and the small regular script learns from Liu (Liu Chunlin)".
