During the reign of Muzong of the Tang Dynasty, Liu Gongquan came to the court to perform affairs. Muzong of the Tang Dynasty admired Liu Shu and appointed him as the scholar of Youshi Shishi. He asked Liu Gongquan about the method of using the pen, and Liu replied: "Only when the heart is upright and the pen is upright can it be called brushwork." Tang Muzong's face suddenly changed. What he realized was that Liu Gongquan actually used the brushwork to give advice. It can be seen from this that Liu Gongquan is still an upright person. Liu Gongquan had great influence in the late Tang Dynasty. If the epitaph of a big family is not written by Mr. Liu, the descendants will be regarded as unfilial.
